Second man arrested following alleged theft of Banksy artwork in Peckham

Police investigating the alleged theft of a road sign made by artist Banksy in south-east London have arrested a second man in connection with the incident.

The installation - a traffic stop sign covered with three military-style drones - was first revealed on Banksy's social media just after noon on Friday.

But less than half an hour later, a man was filmed balancing on a bike and using bolt cutters to loosen the sign before running off with it.

A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said on Saturday that officers had arrested a man, aged in his 20s, on suspicion of theft and criminal damage.

A second man, aged in his 40s, was arrested on Sunday on suspicion of the same offences. He remains in police custody.

Jasmine Ali, deputy leader of Southwark Council, said the artwork, in Peckham, south London, "should not have been removed".

She added: "We reported the removal of our sign to the police to help get it back. We'd like it returned so everyone in the community can enjoy Banksy's brilliant work."

Anyone who may have information about the incident or the whereabouts of the sign is asked to call police on 101 quoting ref 5742/22dec.
