Second man arrested after man hospitalised in vicious Wicklow assault

A second man was arrested over an assault in Wicklow that left a man in hospital.

Gardai were alerted to the incident in the early hours of Tuesday after a man was found with head wounds at a home in Arklow. A second man, late 20s, was arrested and is currently detained in Wicklow Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

Hours ago, gardai confirmed that another man, aged in his 40s, was arrested this morning and he is currently detained in Bray Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. The victim sustained head injuries and was brought to St Vincent's Hospital and later Beaumont Hospital where he is still in critical condition.

A garda spokesman previously said: "Gardai are appealing for witnesses to come forward. They are keen to speak to anyone who was in the area from 12:30 – 2:30am on Tuesday morning, who may have witnessed anything to come forward.

"They are particularly keen that anyone who may have camera footage from this area at this time (including dash-cam) to make this available to investigating gardai. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Arklow Garda Station on 0402 32304, the Garda Confidential Line on (1800) 666 111, or any Garda Station."
