Second Low Moss prison staff member tests positive for covid-19

A second staff member at Low Moss prison has tested positive for covid-19.

Last week the Scottish Prison Service announced a first staff member had tested positive, with 50 other possible close contacts instructed to self-isolate for 14 days.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde have advised they are working alongside the Scottish Prison Service to manage the situation at the prison, which is near Bishopbriggs, to the north of Glasgow.

They confirmed: "A second staff member from Low Moss prison has tested positive for Covid-19. Last week the Scottish Prison Service confirmed that one member of staff had tested positive for the virus and that 50 others had been identified as possible close contacts and told to self-isolate for 14 days.

"A Problem Assessment Group (PAG) met yesterday and brought together representatives from the NHS, the SPS, Health Protection Scotland and East Dunbartonshire Council."

NHSGGC’s Dr Gillian Penrice, who chaired the PAG commented: "All relevant Public Health measures are in place and myself and our Public Health Team are working with SPS to manage and monitor the situation."

A spokesperson for SPS said: “We are taking appropriate measures to respond to the current situation at Low Moss. We are working with NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde to ensure that all the required health advice and monitoring measures are in place."
