Second Leeds United youngster looks set for season-long-loan switch to Millwall

Leeds United midfielder Jamie Shackleton is reportedly set to join up with Charlie Cresswell and sign a season-long-loan deal with Millwall. That is according to Football Insider, who claim that an agreement has been struck between the two clubs and the finishing touches are now being put on the deal.

Cresswell completed his move to the Lions on Monday and is set to be joined by his fellow Leeds academy graduate at the Den, despite having been linked strongly with Reading. Shackleton featured in last night’s 4-0 friendly win over Blackpool but has now been given the green light to complete his loan switch after finding regular game time hard to come by in the last two seasons.

He made 14 Premier League appearances for the Whites last term, with only seven of those from the start and the last of them coming in December, when he limped out of the 7-0 defeat at Manchester City. Shackleton played just 22 minutes of first team action following the arrival of Jesse Marsch as manager and spent much of the season playing second fiddle to Luke Ayling at right back.

However, with Rasmus Kristensen joining from RB Salzburg earlier in the window, and Cody Drameh returning from a very successful loan spell at Cardiff City, competition for places is high. Having said that, Shackleton’s preferred position remains in the centre of midfield, and he will be hoping Millwall can provide him with the opportunity to play there.

Shackleton is one of a number of youngsters to have made the move to the Championship from Leeds during the window. He is set to follow the aforementioned Cresswell to Millwall, Tyler Roberts to QPR and Liam McCarron to Stoke City, with the latter having left Leeds on a permanent deal.
