Second Kilmarnock chip shop closes after worker tests positive for coronavirus

Another Kilmarnock chip shop has been forced to close after a worker tested positive for coronavirus.

Ferri's Cafe announced this evening that it will be closing until next week after a member of staff contracted COVID-19.

The famous ice-cream parlour and chippy said all staff have been tested as a precautionary measure but couldn't provide the same service with the remaining workforce.

The news comes less than 24 hours after The Plaice to Be was shut down after a member of staff tested positive for the virus.

A statement posted on the cafe's Facebook page reads: "Unfortunately a member of our staff has recently tested positive for COVID-19 and in following the government's guidelines a number of our staff are now in self isolation until next week.

"All our staff wear masks and follow a very strict hand hygiene routine and are restricted to their own work stations as much as physically possible, the local authorities and environmental health department have reassured us that our staff are at a very low risk of contracting the virus in this working environment so we are confident that taking the steps we are taking will combat this isolated case.

Now the Titchfield Street chippy will undergo a deep clean.

The statement continued: "To open the shop with our remaining staff that are not at risk would be impractical as we could not provide the customer service in which we pride ourselves on, it is in this note that we regretfully inform you that we will closed until next week.

"We would like to advise all our customers that as of yesterday the shop is going through a very vigorous and thorough deep cleaning process.

"All members of staff have taken tests as a precautionary measure. We want to thank all our customers for their continued support and look forward to seeing you when we open next week."
