Second installment Cook County property tax deadline extended to Oct. 1 without penalty

Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas’ office is reminding property taxpayers they have an additional two months to pay their second installment 2019 property taxes. | Sun-Times file

Cook County property taxes still must be paid, but if you’re a little short on cash this month, you have an extra two months before the 2019 second installment is due.

It’s part of Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas’ effort to offer a little help to folks struggling during the pandemic.

The typical due date for second-installment taxes is Aug. 3.

“In my nearly 22 years as treasurer, I’ve never told people not to pay their taxes,” Pappas said in a statement. “But the pandemic has changed a lot of things. If you’ve lost your job and don’t have the money, you do not have to pay until Oct. 1, 2020.”
