Second Glasgow weather warning for snow as city set for wintry conditions this week

Glasgow is set to see its first snowfall of the year according to forecasters, with the Met Office issuing a second weather warning for the Strathclyde region.

Yesterday, we reported on a yellow weather warning of snow and ice due to arrive at 8pm tomorrow (Thursday) evening, covering much of Scotland and parts of England, which will remain in force until 11am on Friday.

This morning, the Met Office has issued a second yellow warning for snow which will be in place from 10am to 4pm on Thursday.

The wintry forecasts come following freezing overnight temperatures in Glasgow this week.

The Met Office says the adverse weather could cause issues on road and rail and have issued advice to drivers.

Ahead of the warnings, they advise: "Snow may cause some travel disruption over higher routes.

"Frequent sleet, hail and snow showers may lead to some disruption to travel during Thursday night and Friday morning."

What to expect

  • Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services
  • Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths
  • Some brief power outages are possible with a risk of isolated lightning strikes.
  • Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces
