An executive at the Beijing unit of China Railway is being investigated on suspicion of violating the Chinese Communist Party’s rules, the nation’s top graft watchdog said Thursday, becoming the second senior official from the railways to be probed for alleged wrongdoing in almost as many months.
Jing Shiming, a vice general manager of China Railway Beijing Group Co. Ltd., is under investigation for alleged violations of party discipline and law, the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection announced (link in Chinese) Thursday. This term is generally understood to mean allegations of corruption.
Jing, 55, joined the Beijing-based state-owned railway operator in May 2018, according to the statement. He made his most recent public appearance last month when he represented China Railway Beijing in signing an agreement with Tianjin Port (Group) Co. Ltd., which operates the harbor of the same name in Northeast China.
Jing is the second executive in the state railway system to become the subject of an investigation in recent months. On Jan. 7, the anti-graft watchdog said (link in Chinese) that Jiang Yong, a former outside director of China Railway Chengdu Group Co. Ltd., was also being probed on suspicion of violations of party discipline and law.
China Railway Beijing is one of the 18 units of China State Railway Group Co. Ltd., and manages railway operations in regions including Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei province and some parts of Shanxi, Shandong and Henan provinces.
Prior to joining China Railway Beijing, Jing had worked for 28 years at China Railway Chengdu, the Sichuan-based unit of China Railway. A source close to China Railway Beijing said that the probe into Jing is related to his tenure at the Sichuan branch.
