Second Championship rival of Bristol City braced for points deduction after Derby County saga

Reading are set to become the second Championship club to be hit with a points deduction this week, according to reports.

The Royals have been under investigation for breaching EFL spending rules.

And the Daily Mail reports the club has accepted a six-point deduction, in addition to agreeing to a business plan to avoid further penalties.

Should the penalty be imposed, Reading would fall from 16th to 19th in the table, below Bristol City in the table.

Championship clubs are capped at operating losses of £39million over a three-year period, but the Mail reports Reading's losses exceeded that figure.

They are the second Championship outfit to be punished this week after Derby County were deducted a further nine points for financial breaches on Tuesday.

They had already lost 12 points in September due to entering administration, meaning they are bottom of the second tier on -3 points and in need of a miraculous escape to avoid relegation.

With City struggling for form, their bare minimum objective of survival has no doubt been made more straightforward by the points deductions, albeit through other club's failings.
