Second case of coronavirus in Glasgow confirmed by Scottish Government

A new case of coronavirus in Glasgow has been confirmed by the Scottish Government.

It is the second person to be diagnosed with the COVID-19 strain of the highly infectious disease in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area.

Another two cases have also been reported in Lanarkshire. The first case in Glasgow was confirmed two days ago.

Across Scotland, five more people have been diagnosed, bringing the total number of cases to 16.

There has been an increase of one case in Lothian and one in the Grampian region.

The increase across the country matches the jump seen on Friday - the biggest in a single day since the first reported case on Sunday.

The Scottish Government has stated that 1,664 of the 1,680 tests in Scotland have come back negative.

Earlier today, Scotstoun Sports Campus was closed after a person who uses the facilities was confirmed to have coronavirus.

Glasgow Life stated that the infected person uses the Scotstoun Stadium and announced that they have taken the decision to close the Scotstoun venue.

They said: "Someone who uses Scotstoun Stadium has been identified as having Coronavirus. We have temporarily closed Scotstoun Sports Campus and will take appropriate measures in the interests of everyone who uses the venue. Other Glasgow Club venues open as planned. We'll update here ASAP."

The stadium is home to the Glasgow Warriors. It was previously announced that a Scottish international woman's rugby player has tested positive for the virus.
