Second bus lane opening to electric cars in Nottingham

Another bus lane is being piloted to open for electric cars in Nottingham.

It comes after a trial in Daleside Road, Sneinton, has seen over a thousand different low emission vehicles using the lane.

Work started on the Daleside Road Improvement Scheme in 2015 as a way of making the city more green.

Now the city council says that a new scheme has started to trial a shared bus and ULEV (Ultra-low-emission vehicle) lane in Thane Road.

Councillor Sally Longford, Portfolio Holder for Energy and Environment at Nottingham City Council, said: “The trial shared bus and ULEV lane in Daleside Road was introduced in 2018. It was the first of its kind in the UK, and is one of a number of measures we have taken to encourage the uptake of electric vehicles and other cleaner, ultra low emission vehicles.

“We know the lane is well used – around 1,000 different ultra low emission vehicles have used it - and compliance rates are very high. Formal evaluation of the scheme is due to take place later this year, when we’ll feed back our findings to the Government’s Office for Zero Emission Vehicles.

“As part of our Transforming Cities proposals we will be piloting another shared bus and ULEV lane in Thane Road, inbound from the Nottingham Enterprise Zone to the Clifton Bridge roundabout. This scheme is currently in the early stages of development.

“There are no plans to roll out similar schemes elsewhere at the moment.”
