Second Brit dies from Legionnaires’ disease while staying at Bulgarian hotel

Two British tourists died from Legionnaires’ disease after staying at a hotel in Bulgaria.

It is believed two other Brits, booked into the same three-star in Sunny Beach, also contracted the infection but survived.

Brian Taylor, 75, whose wife Nancy, 84, has dementia, is the latest victim named.

His family said he was “fighting fit” before he went away for a week on June 10.

But after returning home to Huddersfield, he complained of flu-like symptoms.

He was rushed to intensive care at Calderdale Royal Hospital, Halifax, on June 21 and died there on July 17.

Two others are believed to have been left seriously ill but are now recovering.

Mr Taylor’s stepdaughter Lorraine Williams, 54, said: “We couldn’t believe it when we were told that others who stayed at the same hotel had also tested positive.”

Solicitor Jatinder Paul, representing the Taylor family, said: “It is extremely worrying that other guests at the hotel also contracted the infection.”

A Jet2Holidays spokesman said: “Sadly, we can confirm two customers passed away.

“Two independent specialists took samples from the hotel and a UKAS accredited laboratory conducted testing for contamination.

“The results were negative but we have transferred all customers to other hotels."
