Second Bristol Bears star injured in England training

Bristol Bears' star full back Max Malins has withdraw from England's match day squad to face Ireland today after suffering an injury in training.

Malins, who was due to start at full back, suffered a leg injury late this week in training on Friday after Eddie Jones announced his team at 11am on Thursday morning.

Malins, 24, has seven caps for England after making his debut against Georgia in the Autumn, but today's game was due to be just his second start for the senior national side.

Malins' withdrawal forces Jones into a reshuffle with Worcester Warriors' Ollie Lawrence starting at outside centre and Saracens' Elliot Daly moving to full back.

Leicester Tigers flanker George Martin joins the 23 as a replacement.

The full extent of Malins injury is currently unknown but the on loan Saracens back becomes Bristol's second star man to get injured in national training with scrum half Harry Randall returning to the Bears last month with a serious ankle injury.

Randall, 23, is expected to be out for another five to six weeks.

With Wales international Ioan Lloyd also injured with an ankle injury, Bears director of rugby Pat Lam was looking forward to welcoming Malins back into the fold for club duty to ease the workload on star full back Charles Piutau.

The former All Black continues to battle with a number of niggling injuries and has been rested this weekend for Bristol's trip to Northampton Saints having been named man of the match in the 37-20 victory over his former side Wasps last weekend.

Henry Purdy starts at full back for the Bears for the second time his season having worn the 15 jersey against Worcester Warriors.

Bristol Live will look to get an update on Malin's condition tomorrow.
