A second person has been arrested by police investigating the bashing murder of an elderly Sydney man in December.
The 44-year-old man was arrested by homicide detectives at a home in Summer Hill in Sydney's inner west about 7.30am on Wednesday.
South Coogee resident Peter McCarthy was found dead at his home on December 20, with a post-mortem finding the 77-year-old died from severe head and facial injuries.
Narelle Smith, a 46-year-old woman who lived in the same South Coogee street, was on Monday charged with Mr McCarthy's murder.
She remains in custody after being formally denied bail on Tuesday.
Smith told the Nine Network as she was arrested that she had nothing to do with Mr McCarthy's death.
The 44-year-old man was taken to Burwood Police Station as inquiries continue.
He is yet to be charged.
