A second man has been charged with murder following last weekend's double fatal shooting and dramatic manhunt north of Brisbane.

The 21-year-old was taken into custody on April 18 for allegedly possessing dangerous drugs at Jindalee, police say.

Remanded in custody after appearing in Caboolture Magistrates Court the following day, he was then charged by detectives with two counts of murder on Friday afternoon.

The man, who is from Kallangur, was due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on Saturday.

Police launched a major search and arrested a 24-year-old man last Sunday following the shooting deaths of two men aged 23 and 37 on Lower King St at Caboolture the previous afternoon.

The pair, from Burpengary, were declared dead after being taken to Caboolture Hospital.

Witnesses told police arriving on the scene they saw a man driving off.

The hunt for the gunman ended shortly after 7pm when the 24-year-old was apprehended at a service station 80km away, in Cornubia in Brisbane's southeast.

He was charged with two counts of murder, possessing a shortened firearm and other weapons offences.

Detective Superintendent Ben Fadian said at the time the three men were known to police and to each other.

"This is not a random incident," he said.

"The community should not feel concerned about their own safety as a result of this."
