SEC officiating started a Twitter account and the replies to its first tweet were brutal

It’s not easy being a sports official. Monday provided further proof.

The SEC officiating team created a Twitter account and website to “serve as your source for rules, videos, statistics and activities inside the SEC Video Center,” the account announced on Monday. The platform gave unhappy fans an outlet to complain about plays of the SEC’s past.

“Go easy on us!” the account wrote in its first tweet.

The fans did not. It was predictably contentious.

As soon as the @SECOfficiating account put up that tweet, it was inevitable that SEC fans would erupt. Everyone knew what would come next.

And fans didn’t disappoint, challenging past calls of the referees.

There were also countless suggestions that officials were influencing games to help Alabama win.
