The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has announced information disclosure on the capital market through the SEC application programming interface (API) to enhance the private sector's access channels for data analysis.
Initial information disclosure will be comprised of information related to mutual funds and licensed or approved individuals in the capital market, said the SEC statement.
The market regulator launched the SEC API to provide SEC information conveniently, said SEC deputy secretary-general Tipsuda Thavaramara.
Information will be in a machine-readable data format and those seeking the information can type a computer code in the SEC API system to receive it, said Mrs Tipsuda.
"We hope this information disclosure system creates an infrastructure of information for the financial sector and capital markets. The private sector can use the information to leverage business operations and data analysis, which is in line with the government's policy to use big data liberally," she said.
For the first phase, the SEC will provide two types of information services: licensed or approved individuals in the capital market and mutual fund information such as types of funds, fee charges, and past performance.
Disclosure through the new system is anticipated to help service efficiency and promote new businesses such as applications developed for investors to compare the performance of mutual funds, of which there are around 9,000 funds.
Inspecting whether an entity or individual is authorised to conduct capital market operations is another purpose of the system.
In separate news, the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) has appointed Rongrak Phanapavudhikul as an executive vice-president and head of the legal affairs division, effective from Jan 16.
"Mr Rongrak has experience and expertise in legal affairs, especially in providing consultation, advice and guidance for businesses, industries, and the capital market. He is well-versed in laws and regulations related to the capital market," said SET president Kesara Manchusree.
