Sebastien Haller's thinly-veiled dig at Marko Arnautovic in his first words as a West Ham player

West Ham have completed the signing of striker Sebastien Haller from Eintracht Frankfurt.

He will become the new focal point of Manuel Pellegrini's attack having been involved in 31 goals in 41 games in all competitions last season and bringing out the best in players such as Luka Jovic in Germany.

The 25-year-old's arrival follows the departure of Marko Arnautovic to join Chinese Super League side Shanghai SIPG, and the Frenchman appeared to hit out at his predeccesor in his first words as a Hammer.

Fans turned on the wantaway Austrian who reinvented himself as one of the Premier League's most feared centre-forwards after joining from Stoke City in 2017.

After initially struggling, amid complaints from former teammates over his attitude in training at his previous club, Arnautovic found his feet under David Moyes and later impressed in the first half of Pellegrini's first season.

However, he threw his future into doubt over a move to China in January 2019 and never recovered either his form or connection with supporters.

New signing Haller is determined to prove he will not let down the Irons and wants to give his all for the shirt.

"I feel really great,” he said after signing for West Ham in an interview for the official club website . “I think it’s a really good opportunity for me to be here.

"It means a lot [to be the record signing]. It proves that the club [has] really wanted me for a long time.

"I felt this desire to sign me and I’m really happy to sign, also. it is an ambitious club, a nice club, a nice city and nice fans too."

He then went on to emphasis the importance of effort and respect - two areas where Arnautovic was criticised for his conduct as a West Ham player.

"For me I can guarantee that I will give 100% for the club," said Haller. "Because the club has given me this confidence and I will try to give it back every day in every game.

"I will always give 100% and respect the club. I think this is a normal thing and that I can guarantee.

"I know it’s a big transfer and there is a lot of expectation around me, and I just want to make people proud of this transfer and I will give everything I have."
