Sebastian Vettel leaves the chasing pack in his slipstream

To paraphrase Gary Lineker, Formula One is a sport that people play for a few hours and then the German wins. The German in question is, of course, Sebastian Vettel, the Red Bull driver who moved a step closer to winning the title again after his third consecutive victory in the Korean Grand Prix in Yeongam and his eighth this season. The race was interrupted by two safety car periods but Vettel was still unruffled and now finds himself on 272 points in the drivers' championship, 77 ahead of Fernando Alonso. Lewis Hamilton finished fifth. The only problem for Vettel now must be getting the smell of champagne out of his gear.

Qatar's winter wonder land

When Fifa awarded the 2022 World Cup to Qatar, there were plans to deal with the heat. But soon it transpired that nuking the sun would not work. Blast! So as a corruption investigation into the vote bubbles away, Fifa president Sepp Blatter says the tournament won't be moved, even if it is played in winter. The decision will be made late next year. No rush, lads. In the Premier League, meanwhile, West Ham surprised everyone by hammering Spurs 3-0 at White Hart Lane. Arsenal are top of the league going into the international break after a 1-1 draw at West Bromwich Albion.

Khan pulls his punches

There was confusion in Amir Khan's camp last week after it was reported that he had pulled out of a fight for the IBF world welterweight title against Devon Alexander, which is scheduled for December, in order to receive a lot of money for getting punched in the face over and over again by Floyd Mayweather Jr in May. "Team Khan would like to dispel recent reports that Amir Khan has pulled out of a potential match-up against Devon Alexander on 7 December, taking up a fight against Floyd Mayweather in May of next year instead," a statement read. "Contrary to this story, Amir Khan is currently in training camp in San Francisco with the aim of fighting again in December against Alexander once an agreement can be reached." It's probably for the best.

Djokovic tames Nadal

It didn't make up for the disappointment of losing the US Open final to Rafael Nadal but Novak Djokovic was happy enough after his 6-3, 6-4 victory in the final of the China Open against the Spaniard. "I really wanted to get my hands on the trophy and win against Nadal, who has been the best player so far in 2013," said Djokovic. Despite Nadal losing, the result confirmed his return to No 1 in the rankings. "[Djokovic]hit all the balls where he wanted. When that's happening against a player like Novak, you are dead," said Zombie Nadal, before tucking into a meal of Roger Federer's brains.
