Sebastian Andersson 'scouted by Celtic' as Hoops face Ajax transfer battle

Sebastian Andersson will be scouted by Celtic when Union Berlin take on Paderborn this weekend - according to a report.

The 28-year-old striker has eight Bundesliga goals in his 14 appearances this season and scored for Sweden against the Faroe Islands last month.

Neil Lennon is looking to bolster his attacking options in January and German outlet Bild states Celtic scouts will run the rule over the Union Berlin striker this weekend.

The Hoops won't be the only ones watching him against Paderborn, though, with Ajax, Brighton and Villarreal also set to be in attendance.

They join a host of German clubs who are interested in Andersson, who has six goals in his last five games for club and country.

Asked about the possibility of losing his top-scorer, coach Urs Fischer replied: "Right now he's still here and I hope he scores in the last three games too.

"What happens after that doesn't bother me right now, for me it's the present that's important.

"Besides, we're very well prepared."

Bild suggests the last line could indicate that there is a clause to extend Andersson's contract beyond its current expiry in summer 2020.

Celtic are believed to be looking for a striker to alternate with Odsonne Edouard as Leigh Griffiths battles back to full fitness.
