Seb Ikahihifo to remain a Red Devil in 2021 and spend further season on loan at Salford

Sebastine Ikahihifo will remain a Red Devil in 2021 after agreeing to remain with Salford on a further season-long loan.

A former Super League Dream Team member, Ikahihifo enjoyed a strong year at the AJ Bell Stadium, helping the club to the Challenge Cup Final at Wembley.

He will reject the opportunity to link back up with former Salford boss Ian Watson at parent club Huddersfield Giants in order to remain with the Red Devils.

"I'm really looking forward to another year here," said the 29-year-old prop forward. "I got my mental confidence back this season and I'm playing my game.

"I’ve never been in a team environment where there are so many uplifting personalities.

"In the middles we have Moose and he’s a great leader, always aggressive in defence and attack, and everyone listens when he speaks. He’s one of the best captains I’ve played with.

"We all give each other energy in the pack, off the back of each other’s carries. It will be great to have the crowd back to cheer us, though. Hearing them really gives you a lift."

Ikahihifo and former Giants teammate Oliver Roberts will both spend the 2021 season on loan at the AJ Bell Stadium.

Salford director of rugby Ian Blease explained his delight at securing the deal for next year.

"We've been really impressed with the way Seb's applied himself with us this season," he said.

"He recaptured the level of performance which made him one of the competition’s most effective front-rowers and showcased a determination which helped carry us to Wembley.

"I was excited when we first brought him in and I’m sure all supporters can see why from his displays on the field, but what impressed me just as much, has been his contribution to our environment.

"On Oliver Roberts’ first day, I remember Seb made sure he was introduced to his new teammates, but also took him over to all the members of staff and introduced him to them.

"It’s that kind of character that we want involved at our club and I would therefore like to thank Richard Thewlis at Huddersfield for working with me on this deal.”
