Confident: Seb Coe believes the leadership team at UK Athletics can stabilise finances

World Athletics boss Seb Coe has backed UK Athletics to recover from its current financial predicament.

Last week, UKA announced a loss of £1.8million for the last year and said it was down to reserves of just £430,000.

But Coe said a new hierarchy of CEO Jack Buckner, COO Mark Munro and chair Ian Beattie were the right people to turn around the current financial slump.

“The finances should not have got into the position they did,” said Coe. “I chatted to Jack at some length about it, he knows his big ambition has to be to stabilise the finances. He is very active in finding new sponsors.

“I think they will stabilise it and keep growing the sport. I’m personally delighted UKA has got what I think now is a really good leadership team.

“They know they have a big challenge ahead. They have a huge advantage in that they have a very good group of athletes coming through.”
