Seattle Seahawks sue Malik McDowell over forfeited bonus money

Malik McDowell’s time as a player with the Seattle Seahawks is done, but the two sides aren’t quite rid of each other.

The Seahawks sued the former Spartan and 2nd round pick for nearly $800,000 of forfeited bonus money according to the Detroit News. The Seahawks claim the defensive lineman never paid forfeited back bonus money after an arbitrator ruled McDowell had to give back $799,238 after suffering a head injury in an ATV accident after he was drafted. Following the injury McDowell was never cleared to play and has yet to take a snap in the NFL.

The Seahawks released McDowell in 2018.

McDowell was found to be in breach of his contract, suffering a non-football injury, and must forfeit his $1.6 million signing bonus. The lawsuit was filed in the U.S District Court in the Eastern District of Michigan.

McDowell recently visited the Dallas Cowboys in hopes of returning to the NFL.
