Seattle Seahawks re-sign defensive back Neiko Thorpe

The Seattle Seahawks have re-signed defensive back and special teams extraordinaire Neiko Thorpe, according to a post on his Instagram account. Terms have not been disclosed.

Thorpe has been with the Seahawks for the past three seasons, playing primarily on special teams while also serving as a backup nickelback.

He has appeared in 41 games with Seattle, recording 19 tackles and two passes defended.

Now that Justin Coleman departed for the Lions in free agency, Thorpe will get a chance to compete for the starting nickel spot alongside Akeem King and potentially Kalan Reed.

With Thorpe’s signing, Seattle now has seven cornerbacks on their active roster: Thorpe, Reed, King, Simeon Thomas, Jeremy Boykins and the starters, Shaquill Griffin and Tre Flowers.

Most teams typically keep just five corners, so Seattle will host an intense competition in camp next season for the final spots in the secondary.

Thorpe’s new contract and his expertise as a special-teamer should help him lock down a job with Seattle in 2019.
