Seattle Seahawks re-sign defensive back Akeem King

The Seattle Seahawks have brought back their first free agent of the offseason, coming to terms with defensive back Akeem King on a one-year, $1.4 million dollar contract.

The deal includes a $400K signing bonus and incentives that could push the total up to $2.05 million – which is just above the low tender for a restricted free agent.

King, 26, played in every game for the Seahawks last season after not appearing in an NFL game since 2015. The versatile defensive back was a big part of Seattle’s special teams unit, recording 21 combined tackles – 16 of those solo.

King gives Seattle added depth at all three cornerback positions, which is critical with both Justin Coleman and Neiko Thorpe set to hit free agency.

King will come into camp competing for Seattle’s starting job at nickel, assuming the Seahawks don’t re-sign Justin Coleman. King provides great depth for Tre Flowers and Shaquill Griffin on the outside as well, and will once again be a look to be stalwart on the special teams.
