Seattle Seahawks don’t receive any compensatory draft picks

The league released the list of compensatory picks for the 2019 NFL Draft on Friday, and unsurprisingly, the Seattle Seahawks did not receive any additional selections.

Seattle currently only has four picks in the upcoming draft, although the Seahawks have a history of trading down in the first round in order to acquire more – something they could look to do once again this year.

The NFL awards 32 compensatory picks each season, which are added at the end of rounds 3-7. Teams are awarded picks based on the free agents they lost and gained over the previous offseason. Teams that lost high-performing free agents are more likely to get a higher compensatory pick, although the formula the NFL determines to make these decisions has never officially been released.

The Seahawks saw a handful of free agents depart last season, including tight end Jimmy Graham, wide receiver Paul Richardson and defensive tackle Sheldon Richardson. While they brought in quite a few free agents, including tight end Ed Dickson and edge rusher Barkevious Mingo, it does seem like they lost more than they gained.

However, the NFL didn’t see it that way, and the Seahawks will have to make some decisions if they want to acquire more capital before the NFL Draft.

Here is a look at the league-wide compensatory picks for 2019:
