Seasonal ailments on the rise in Bhopal

BHOPAL: Number of patients seeking appointment with doctors, is on the rise across main hospitals in the Bhopal. Cases of seasonal illnesses like cold and weather-related ailments have acutely increased in the city in the past several days.

Weather change usually triggers seasonal illness, experts said. They also note that reducing one’s risk of the flu is important as it is also linked to following Covid-19 protocol. “Unless there is worsening of the medical condition like fever or signs of dehydration, people often do not take medical advice. Self-medication often compounds the problem,” said Dr Rajiv Singh.

The number OPD cases has increased in the last few weeks. Muscle aches, nausea, diarrhea, and a low grade fever along with the common cold which can be contagious, but typically not serious are being reported. On October 8, the number slots for appointments at AIIMS Bhopal was around 172, it spiked to over 400 in the next three days. Despite a holiday break, the number was more than 300 per working day, according to government data. Viral fever has also impacted the pediatric age group. Number of children admitted in government hospitals has not declined since end of August. An estimated 500 plus children are reported to be admitted in various private and government city hospitals. Many of them are not from Bhopal.

Air pollution and pollens has also impacted people with low immunity. “Dust too can be a trigger for many with preexisting COPD,” he said.
