'Season starts now, announce new contract' - Chelsea fans excited by Callum Hudson-Odoi update

Chelsea supporters are getting excited.

That is because a number of players are on the comeback trail.

Antonio Rudiger played 90 minutes for the U23s in the Premier League 2 on Monday night, and Frank Lampard has been handed another major boost.

Callum Hudson-Odoi has returned to training with the first team, having not played since April 22.

Hudson-Odoi ruptured his Achilles' tendon back in April against Burnley, but Lampard confirmed at his press conference ahead of the Leicester City game that the winger has spent the past couple of weeks working with the club's U23 side.

"He is getting closer, he has trained over the last week or two with the Under-23s, there is going to be a period of conditioning work for him," he said.

"The injury looks good which is great news. Then he is going to have to be fitter than he has ever been because I want him to run."

And he is now back in training with the first team, as per an update from the club's official Twitter account.

A post on Tuesday afternoon with four photos of the 18-year-old came with the simple caption: "CALLUM!" and the eyes emoji.

And it's fair to say that the Blues supporters were thrilled with the update.

Many called on Chelsea to announce a new contract for the teenage star, while others could not wait to see him back on the pitch.
