The season finale of USA Network’s series Mr Robot has been postponed as scenes in it are “similar in nature” to the shooting that took place in Virginia on Wednesday morning.
In a statement USA Network said that out of respect for the victims of the shooting – Alison Parker and Adam Ward, who were killed live on air while filming for local station WDBJ – the episode which had been due to be broadcast on Wednesday night will be shown next week.
“The previously filmed season finale of Mr Robot contains a graphic scene similar in nature to today’s tragic events in Virginia,” the statement read.
“Out of respect to the victims, their families and colleagues, and our viewers, we are postponing tonight’s episode. Our thoughts go out to all those affected during this difficult time.”
The show has been a sleeper hit this summer, gaining cult status with its storyline that revolves around an “Anonymous-like band of anarchist hackers” led by Mr Robot (played by Christian Slater) who attempt to recruit an introverted computer genius (Rami Malek).
The finale will now show on USA Network on 2 September at 10pm.
