Season 2 of 'American Rust' to premiere on Amazon Prime

New York Amazon facility

American Rust is making a comeback with its highly anticipated Season 2. However, fans of the show will have to head over to Amazon Prime Video to catch the new episodes, as the series has switched networks. Originally canceled after just one season on Showtime in January 2022, American Rust found new life when Freevee, Amazon's ad-supported TV platform, picked it up for a second season in June. Now, Prime Video is set to release the 10-episode second season on March 28.

This move raises interesting questions about the future of Freevee, particularly now that Prime Video has launched its own ad-supported tier. The streaming platform previously announced that another show, Leverage: Redemption, would also be moving from Freevee to Prime Video for its third season. Additionally, a spinoff of the popular series Bosch, featuring cold case detective Renée Ballard, is set to be produced exclusively for Prime Video, despite the original Bosch series airing on Freevee. It seems like a shift is underway in Amazon's streaming landscape.

The first season of American Rust, which aired in 2021, was based on the novel of the same name written by Philipp Meyer. Building on the suspense and drama of its predecessor, Season 2 is officially titled 'American Rust: Broken Justice' and continues in the fictional small town of Buell, Pennsylvania.

The storyline follows the lives of Del Harris, portrayed by the talented Jeff Daniels, and Grace Poe, played by the remarkable Maura Tierney, as they attempt to rebuild their lives after the intense events of Season 1. However, their path to normalcy is disrupted by a series of seemingly unrelated murders. These heinous acts hint at a much larger conspiracy, putting the entire tight-knit town in danger.

Alongside Daniels and Tierney, the returning cast includes David Alvarez as Isaac English, Alex Neustaedter as Billy Poe, Julie Mayorga as Lee English, Mark Pellegrino as Virgil Poe, Rob Yang as Chief Steve Park, and Kyle Beltran as Detective Fisher. Joining the ensemble are new additions Luna Lauren Velez as Detective Angela Burgos, Marc Menchaca as Vic Walker, Nick Sandow as Mike Orr, Britian Seibert as Cynthia Frazier, Christopher Denham as Russell Wolff, Amelia Workman as Rinna Bransford, Leon Addison Brown as Chief Bolt, and Sara Lindsey as Maya Park.

Dan Futterman developed the series and serves as executive producer, while Jeff Daniels also takes on an executive producer role in addition to his captivating performance. Other executive producers include Adam Rapp, Paul Martino, Michael De Luca, Ivan Schneeberg, David Fortier, Nick Nantell, Katie O'Connell Marsh, and Elisa Ellis. The series is produced and distributed globally by Boat Rocker, ensuring that fans around the world can enjoy the thrilling story.

With its intriguing plot full of mystery and tension, American Rust: Broken Justice promises to deliver another compelling season that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats. As fans eagerly await the premiere on March 28, it remains to be seen how this new chapter will unfold and whether it will continue to captivate audiences as its predecessor did.
