Seaside beauty spot restaurant has the perfect view for donkey lovers

Donkeys hold a special place in many people's hearts, whether it's from seeing them at the beach on a trip to the seaside, or getting the chance to feed them at the local farm. There's just something about the charming creatures you can't help but love.

And if you're a bit of an admirer yourself then you're luck as can dine with donkeys along the coast of Devon.

The Donkey Sanctuary, on the Jurassic Coast, in Sidmouth, rescues elderly and unwanted donkeys that visitors can go and see for free.

The centre is home to over 200 donkeys that have been rehomed, from giant Poitou donkeys to adorable miniature donkeys.

Visitors can now dine in at the award-winning onsite restaurant 'The Kitchen', overlooking the donkeys’ paddocks and views of the historic coastline, which is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Adults can opt for a full English breakfast, a jacket potato or the eatery's signature burger, while the children’s menu features a ‘Donkey Bag’ packed-lunch style meal.

The charity aims to help educate guests on their four-legged residents, relying on donations to fund their rescue work.

A spokesperson for The Donkey Sanctuary said: “More than just adorably long ears, soft furry noses and charming characters - donkeys matter.

"Across the globe, entire communities rely on donkeys. Find out why they are so special through fun and interactive displays, which will change your perception of donkeys forever.

“Visit the Understanding Donkeys Zone and see what is involved in caring for the resident herd. Discover donkeys through the ages in the Exhibition Barn and climb aboard an actual mobile unit and see the tools used to provide veterinary treatments to donkeys in remote locations.”

The sanctuary is open seven days a week from 9am to 5pm, with free parking. Dogs on leads welcome to visit too.
