A search is underway off a remote coastline of eastern Victoria after a mystery yacht washed up on Sunday afternoon.
Authorities were notified of an unoccupied yacht between Point Hicks and Tamboon Inlet, between Bemm River and Mallacoota.
Police say despite no-one being onboard, the vessel's radio was switched on and a dinghy was attached nearby.
Victoria Police Inspector for the East Gippsland region Matt Gleeson said there was no identification on the yacht.
Border Force leads search
Australian Border Force is involved in the search and rescue operation along with water police, Victoria Parks and Life Saving Victoria.
"We will forensically examine that yacht and see if we can get some more answers," Inspector Gleeson said.
He said he could not rule out the yacht being from overseas, and said police were keeping an open mind.
"It's the Bass Strait so it's a fairly big piece of water, so we will definitely be looking at all options," he said.
