Search and rescue teams were deployed to Ainsdale Beach to rescue a man who had become stuck in the dunes after being injured.
The ECHO understands a man became injured yesterday morning (Tuesday) in the sand dunes between Ainsdale and Formby.
Two fire engines, a search and rescue team, the Coastguard Rescue team and North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) rushed to the beach.
The Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) - an ambulance service which provides medical care to patients in the "hot zone" of hazardous environments - was also at the scene.
Emergency services were at the beach for more than two hours while the man was located, and a plan of how best to safely get him to hospital was formed.
A Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "We were alerted at 10.02am and arrived at 10.14am, with the delay being due to the incident actually being in the sand dunes.
"We got the casualty to a safe area, where he was assessed by paramedics, this was about 1.5m south of Pontins."
The man was taken by stretcher to a vehicle, which then took him to an ambulance.
A spokesman for NWAS said: "We deployed several resources, including a Hazardous Area Response Team to Shore Road, Southport, following a 999 call at 08.55.
"A man required rescue from the beach after becoming injured and was taken to hospital with a leg injury."
