Search operation launched after 'woman seen entering water' in the River Lee on Wednesday night

A search operation will resume this morning after reports that a woman entered the water in the River Lee last night.

Emergency services rushed to the scene at George's Quay in Co Cork at around 10pm on Wednesday.

Units of Cork City Fire Brigade, as well as Gardai, made it to the scene but were unable to find anyone in the water before the coastguard took control of the operation, Cork Beo reports.

The search is now set to continue on Thursday morning.

A garda spokesman said: "A search operation is set to resume this morning following reports of a female entering the water at Georges Quay in Cork at approximately 10pm on October 9.

"No further information is available currently. Investigations are ongoing."
