Search on for West Dunbartonshire's community heroes as awards nominations open

The search has been launched to find West Dunbartonshire’s community champions for the 2022 Provost’s Civic Awards.

The annual awards celebrate residents who make a significant contribution to improving the area and the lives of people who live here.

The event – being held in person for the first time in three years - will welcome local heroes to Clydebank Town Hall for a special awards ceremony.

They will be awarded across five categories: arts and culture champion, sports champion, community/voluntary champion (individual), community/voluntary champion (team) and youth champion.

From this shortlist, Provost Douglas McAllister will select one overall winner who will be named West Dunbartonshire’s Citizen of the Year.

Provost McAllister said: “I am looking forward to hosting my first Provost’s Civic Award event since being re-elected and appointed as provost.

“It is so important that we take the time to publicly thank the many people in our communities who do fantastic work on a daily basis, regularly going above and beyond to make things better for everyone.

“Often this work goes unnoticed, but this celebration means we can acknowledge this community spirit – something that makes West Dunbartonshire a much better place to live for us all.

“I know of many worthy residents who deserve recognition for the great work they do but I’m relying on the public to nominate them and let us give them the praise they so thoroughly deserve.

“I’m delighted to launch the 2022 awards and would urge residents to come forward and nominate the people who make a difference every day to residents in West Dunbartonshire.”

Last year, Maureen and Gordon Cummings, of Old Kilpatrick Food Parcels, were named citizen of the year at the awards.

The dynamic duo established the foodbank in 2020 while the area was in the grip of the first national lockdown.

The winners will be celebrated at an awards dinner this year, have their names added to the boards at Clydebank Town Hall, and be guests of the Provost at the Queen’s annual garden party at Holyrood in 2023.

Nominations can now be made online at www.provostawards.com or by completing the nomination forms available from council buildings including libraries, community centres and leisure centres.

The 2022 Provost Civic Awards is run in partnership with CCG, and supported by West College Scotland.

Sponsorship packages are still available.
