Search mounted for fallen climber in Glen Nevis as Storm Dennis batters Scotland

Fears are growing for the safety of a climber thought to be in difficulty in Glen Nevis.

Police and the Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team are searching the area after receiving a report at around 1pm on Sunday.

It is believed the man was either climbing or hiking and failed to return from the area.

The search is taking place near the foot of Ben Nevis in the Fort William area.

It comes amid the battering being handed out by Storm Dennis with high winds causing disruption across the country.

In the Highlands the rain is turning to snow amid falling temperatures with many routes seeing snow gates closed.

Police Scotland said: “Around 1pm on Sunday, February 16, police received a report of a man having fallen during a climb on Glen Nevis.

“Officers attended alongside Lochaber Mountain Rescue team.”

It is believed more than 20 mountain rescue volunteers are involved in the search, alongside police.

An Amber Weather Warning is still in force.
