Search launched to reunite stolen rucksacks dumped at Spike Island in Bristol

A Bristol resident is searching for the owners of two stolen rucksacks dumped in a communal garden in Bristol on Monday (July 1).

Lottie Storey, 42, first saw the bags in an outside area of the Merchants Landing estate on Spike Island at around 8.30am on Monday morning, and upon closer inspection found they had been left open with clothes and personal belongings strewn across the ground.

The two bags contained a number of items of clothing, which appear to belong to a young man and woman, paintbrushes and watercolour paper, and bottles of toiletries with German branding.

Lottie, who is currently looking after the bags and has been actively searching for the owners online, believes that the rucksacks may have been stolen from young tourists who were either visiting from, or recently visited, Europe.

She said: "The bags look like they have been completely ransacked, there were two lots of clothes which had clearly been washed and folded all over the place.

"We live near a hostel so we thought they could have been taken from there, or possibly from the train station and then just dumped.

"It would be great to reunite them with their owners - so far we've not heard anything but there must be someone out there looking for them."

The missing bags have been reported to police but due to the lack of identifying items such as a wallet or phone inside, Lottie was told that there was little that could be done and that she should hold onto them in case anyone came forward.
