Search launched for masked men following reports of suspicious incident in Victoria Road

Police are appealing for witnesses after a group of men were seen behaving "suspiciously" in the southside this morning (Tuesday, April 16).

Around 10.05am, officers received multiple reports from concerned locals who'd watched a group of men get out of a red transit van at the top of end of Victoria Road, near Queen's Park.

The men, who were all wearing white decorating suits and white face masks, ran into nearby Queen's Park Lane, where a number of items were found discarded.

Glasgow Royal Infirmary named one of top 100 hospitals in the world

Detective Inspector Lynsey Watters, from Cathcart CID, said: “We are currently investigating this incident and trying to establish why these men were in Victoria Road, and whether they had been intending to commit a crime.

“The area would have been busy with people at the time and we are appealing to anyone who noticed men matching the above descriptions running away, or anything at all suspicious, to get in touch.

“We would also urge motorists with dashcams who were nearby to check their footage in case they have captured the men, or possibly a red transit van.

“Additional patrols will be in the area to provide reassurance and any members of the public with concerns are welcome to approach the officers who will be happy to assist.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact Cathcart CID via 101, quoting incident number 0903 of Tuesday 16 April 2019."

Alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted on 0800 555 111 where details can be given in confidence.
