Search for taxi driver who rescued teen when car broke down after passing driving test

A teenager has launched a search for a taxi driver who came to her aid hours after she passed her driving test.

Liliana Wilson realised she had mistakenly put diesel in her car's tank instead of petrol.

The vehicle suddenly broke down on Wednesday and she was left terrified just two hours after passing her driving test.

It was also her first time driving the car alone as she took to the roads in Grimsby, Lincolnshire.

Several motorists drove past the 18-year-old and spotted she was upset, but only one person stopped to help.

Liliana told Grimsby Live : "I passed my test and my first thing was to go to Tesco and fill up my tank.

"I got maybe five minutes away from home and realised I'd put in the wrong fuel, so then I broke down in the middle of the road, quickly put my hazards on and a lot of people drove past me.

"They looked at me through the window and could see that I was upset and then a lovely taxi driver pulled over.

"I think he was on his way to drop someone off but he pulled over and asked if I'd broken down.

"I said yes and then he wheeled me all the way down the hill and put me onto the kerb so I was out of everyone's way

"It was awful. I was probably there for about five minutes but it felt like a lot longer.

"I called my mum and said, 'I don't know what to do', and the taxi driver pulled up just after.

"I know what he looks like, if I saw him I'd know who it was.

"But because I was in panic mode I didn't even look at his reg.

"I can kind of remember what his car looks like but that's pretty much it. The only thing I can remember was him and his face.

"He was probably in his fifties and had grey hair. He was smiling and he had a little chip in his tooth, I remember that.

"He was really helpful. I was just there crying my eyes out thinking, 'Someone please help me!' But the taxi driver really did restore my faith in humanity.

"I was in panic mode so I didn't think to take his name or anything like that. He made the time and effort to put me onto the kerb and it just showed that there's some really kind-hearted people out there.

"I just want to thank him so much. He was on a job but he made the effort to help a young person out. He was reassuring and I'd just love to thank him."

Following the incident, Liliana's mum, Annabelle O'Neill, took to Facebook in a bid to find the mystery taxi driver.

She wrote: "Hi just trying to find a taxi driver that helped my 18-year-old daughter out today, would like to thank him.

"She passed her driving test this morning and finally went out on her own but unfortunately broke down on Trinity Road near the junction for Taylors Avenue. She was driving a little red Citroën.

"Poor thing was so upset and so many cars went past her with her hazards on and didn't stop.

"But this amazing man stopped and helped her get her car into a safer spot. Which as her mum I'm truly grateful for."
