Search for 'sentimental' machete stolen during Jesmond burglary

A sentimental knife was stolen during a raid on a house in Jesmond.

Police are appealing for whoever is responsible to "do the right thing" and hand it over to officers.

The burglary took place at some point between 8.30am and 5.45pm on January 21 when a property on Mitchell Avenue was targeted by thieves.

Intruders forced their way in through a rear window and stole jewellery along with the ornamental knife.

Police are yet to identify, or arrest anyone, in connection with the burglary.

The distinctive Kukri machete holds huge sentimental value to the owner as it was gifted to him while he was in the army.

It is inscribed with his details and police are now asking the person who took it to do the right thing and hand it back in to police.

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "Anyone who may have come across the item, or has information about the burglary, should call police on 101 quoting crime reference 8901S/20.

"You can also report information online at the Northumbria Police website or email  8608@northumbria.pnn.police.uk."
