Search for Sean Bond missing for three years ends in tragedy as remains found in Mullingar

Gardai have stood down a search for a man missing for three years following the discovery of human remains in Westmeath.

Sean Bond, from Mullingar, was reported missing back in 2017 on Christmas Eve.

The 51-year-old was last seen at around midday and went missing from his home in Greenpark Meadows in Mullingar.

Human remains were discovered two weeks ago and they have since been identified as belonging to Mr Bond.

Gardai stood down the three-year search for him on Thursday night.

A Garda spokeswoman said: "Following the discovery of human remains in Mullingar, Co. Westmeath on 8th May 2021, the search for missing person Sean Bond has been stood down.

"Sean went missing from his home in Mullingar on 24th December 2017.

"His remains were located in a wooded area in Mullingar, Co. Westmeath on 8th May 2021. A post-mortem was conducted by the Office of the State Pathologist.

"An Garda Síochána would like to thank the media and public for their assistance in this matter. No further information is available at this time."
