Police have launched a search for the family of an honoured veteran after a prized possession was found.
Officers are searching for the family of Sub Inspector William Culshaw, who worked at Liverpool Police between 1919 and 1944. Police would like to get in touch after they were contacted by a resident living in Rufford, West Lancashire, after he found a silver medal while gardening.
The medal, dated 1944, was awarded to Inspector Culshaw after being commended by HM judges for his careful handling and fairness to suspects, according to an article from the Evening Express. It's believed he joined the police after being discharged from the army.

PC Greson Fontenell from Southport Community Policing said: “I found a few articles in the Evening Express about Inspector Culshaw who was appointed to the rank of Inspector, and it says that he was an exemplary officer. We would like to return the medal to his surviving relatives as it is a lovely piece of family history for them to have.
“The person who found it is also hopes it is returned to the rightful family of Inspector Culshaw. If you can help locate his relatives then please get in touch.”
If you know the family of Inspector William Culshaw, or can help find the family, then please contact PC Fontenell by emailing 5301@merseyside.police.uk or call 0151 777 3945.
