Search for owners of emaciated lurcher abandoned and left for dead in Blyth

A starving dog who was nothing but skin and bones was dumped in a field by her cruel owners.

The emaciated female dog, who was left almost completely hairless, was found in a field in Blyth , Northumberland.

The lurcher was close to death when she was picked up by Northumberland County Council Animal Welfare Officers on December 3 in the Cowpen area following a call from a concerned member of the public.

Lurcher dog named Tiggy who was found starving in Cowpen in Blyth (Northumberland County Council)

The dog, thought to be around three years of age, has now been named Tiggy.

She is being cared for in a foster home through Berwick Animal Rescue Kennels where she is on a special diet and receiving love and care as she starts the long process of being nursed back to full health.

Now an appeal has been made to the public for anyone who has information on where she has come from.

A council animal welfare officer said: “This dog was in a really horrific state. Someone, somewhere knows who she belongs to, or has seen her about. She was completely skin and bone and less than half the weight she should have been. She had no fur either and has never been microchipped and seems to have just been dumped out on the streets.

“This is a shocking and inexcusable case of neglect and we are very keen to get to the bottom of how she came to be in such an emaciated condition and bring the person(s) responsible to account.”

If you have any information, no matter how small, contact the Animal Welfare Team on 0345 600 6400 or by email to AnimalWelfare@northumberland.gov.uk. Information will be taken in confidence.
