
ATAMI, Shizuoka -- A search for victims of the massive mudslide continued Friday with 1,700 people, including members of the Self-Defense Forces, firefighters and police officers, in Atami, Shizuoka Prefecture.
The search, which resumed at 6 a.m., was suspended at about 8 a.m. after confirming two small collapsed mounds near where the mudslide began.
The death toll of the disaster remained at nine, while the number of people missing fell by one to 21.
