Search for missing Vic woman scaled back

Searchers including SES personnel have scoured dense bushland east of Melbourne. (AAP)

The search for a missing grandmother in bushland east of Melbourne has been scaled back.

Susan Shaw, 67, has not been seen since police stopped her walking along Mount Donna Buang Road at Warburton in the early hours of November 27.

Police, rescue specialists, and SES and CFA volunteers have been scouring dense bushland in the area but the search effort has since been reduced.

"The search has been scaled back," a Victoria Police spokesman told AAP on Monday.

"It's still ongoing but it'll just be locals patrolling. We won't have SES and all the other groups out there."

It comes after police asked residents on Friday to check their holiday homes, sheds and outhouses for Ms Shaw, who they believe could be sheltering nearby.

Despite the dense and steep terrain, it is thought someone could survive in the area for quite some time because of water availability and temperate weather conditions.

Ms Shaw's family and friends say her disappearance is out of character.

Two days after she went missing, son Kane Cashmore said his mother had been increasingly isolated during Victoria's coronavirus lockdown.
