Pensioner with Alzheimer's who went missing in Whitley Bay found safe and well

Missing pensioner Doreen Illingworth has been found safe and well, police have said.

Northumbria Police had earlier today appealed for help to trace Doreen who has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s as concerns grew for her welfare and safety.

She and her husband left their home to go shopping at around 9.30am on Friday May 17.

They travelled together on the Metro to Whitley Bay and she was last seen outside the Kit Box model shop on Station Road, Whitley Bay at around 10.25am.

Her husband searched the area extensively before calling police.

Thankfully Doreen, 77, was found safe and well this afternoon.
