Search for missing Limerick man Paddy Rainsford, 86, stood down after body found in Tipperary

The search for an elderly Limerick man who went missing has been stood down following the tragic discovery of a body.

Paddy Rainsford, 86, left his home on Wednesday evening to attend a card game but he never arrived.

It's understood he departed his home at Annagh, Lisnagry at around 7.30pm in a dark blue Skoda car.

Gardai believe Paddy was expected to drive to Birdhill or the Boher area of Co Tipperary.

The pensioner's family were concerned for his welfare as he suffered from a medical condition.

Sadly, it was confirmed this morning that the search has been called off after a body was found in Ballina, Co Tipperary.

A garda spokesperson said: "Following the discovery of a body in the Ballina area of Tipperary, the missing person search for Paddy Rainsford has been stood down. Gardaí are working closely with the family during this tragic time.

"We would like to thank the public and the media for their assistance in this matter."
