Search for missing Dublin man Cian McLaughlin scaled back by US park rangers

Grand Teton National Park (GTNP) rangers have issued an update today in the search for missing Dublin man Cian McLaughlin.

Friday marked the 10th day of combing through the backcountry in Wyoming, with rangers releasing a statement to say the search for Cian will shift tactics to a "continuous, but limited mode".

Officials added: "New clues will be investigated as they come forward and park staff will continue to patrol the backcountry to search for signs of McLaughlin's whereabouts."

Cian was last seen on June 8, when a climbing guide reported seeing someone matching his description hiking alone.

More than 45 helicopter search missions have been conducted since then, using rescue technology and thermal imaging cameras, while up to 70 park staff and several dog teams searched the park's trails, canyons, and woods for days.

According to the release from the park; "Some of these efforts included navigating steep, technical terrain in hazardous areas.

"Many of these areas require rope, an ice axe, crampons, and other protective equipment to access."

CJ Adams, a spokesperson for GTNP told local media that they haven't given up hope in finding McLaughlin alive, but said that the likelihood of this outcome fades the longer a person is missing.

He said: "Each day that passes and with the conditions and such, the likelihood is less and less that McLaughlin will be found alive.

"But, you know, there's always a chance.

"So the park's going to do what we can to find him, and we'll put out missing person flyers at locations and talk to people that are going into the backcountry; Let them see that flyer and we're still hopeful that some resolution will come of this."
