Search for family of Dublin man murdered in UK almost 40 years ago as arrest made in investigation

A search is underway by gardai and the London Met Police for the family of a Dublin man murdered in London almost 40 years ago.

Christopher Ainscough, who was born in Dublin and 50-years-old at the time of his death, was found dead in his home at Windmill Court in Shoot-Up Hill, NW2 in December 1983.

It is believed that he was attacked in his home at some point between December 2 and 5 and suffered significant head injuries.

His killer has never been found, but an arrest in connection with the case was made yesterday, February 2 after someone attended a police station towards the end of 2020, claiming to have knowledge of the incident.

The 58-year-old man remains in custody in a south London police station yesterday after being arrested on suspicion of murder.

Detective Chief Inspector Simon Harding of the Specialist Crime Command said: “It is nearly 40 years since Christopher Ainscough was murdered and given the significant development in this investigation, we are now putting renewed vigour into identifying his next of kin so we can inform them of this latest news.

“If you knew Christopher or his family circumstances then please get in touch – we want to let his family to know that Christopher remains at the centre of our thoughts and we are doing all we can to get justice for him and his loved ones.”

Anyone that can assist is asked to call the police incident room on 0044 20 8721 4205.
