Search for driver who fled from crash in Denton Burn after flipping other car onto roof

A search is under way for a driver who drove off from a crash which left another car on its roof.

Police and an ambulance were called to West Road in Denton Burn at 8pm on Sunday where two cars had crashed near to The Denton pub before one drove away from the scene.

A silver car made off after colliding with a Ford car, which ended up on its roof, with the 60-year-old driver suffering minor injuries.

Police officers are now searching for the silver car and its driver.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “At 8.04pm yesterday (Sunday) we received a report of a two vehicle collision outside the Denton Hotel on West Road.

“It was reported a silver car had been in collision with a grey Ford, causing it to rest on its roof, before leaving the scene.

“The driver of the Ford, a 60-year-old male, sustained minor injuries in the incident.

“Inquiries to trace the other vehicle and its driver are ongoing.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact police quoting log 1026 251020.”

The North East Ambulance Service said: "We were called at 8pm to a two-vehicle road traffic collision.

"The occupants had got out of their vehicles prior to our arrival."
